Everson Griffen will not play for the Minnesota Vikings Sunday afternoon as they take on the Kansas City Chiefs at TCF Bank Stadium.
Griffen was a surprise addition to the inactives list after practicing fully all week. The Vikings says Griffen is battling an illness.
With Griffen down, rookie DE Danielle Hunter will get the start at RDE.
Griffen’s illness and Justin Trattou’s injury mean the Vikings have just three available defensive ends for this game: Hunter, Scott Crichton and Brian Robison.
In other inactives news, the Vikings have sat down WR Charles Johnson for the second straight game with a hip injury.
There had been some discussion about the Vikings potentially deactivating Cordarrelle Patterson for today’s game but with Johnson hurt, Patterson is in fact active.
Mike Wallace is active after being listed as probable on the Friday injury report with a bad knee. Jarius Wright is also active.
Newly-acquired C Nick Easton is among the Vikings’ inactives as well.
The Chiefs’ inactives include DT Dontari Poe.
