Minnesota Vikings: Blair Walsh seems to be back on track

One of the biggest concerns for the Minnesota Vikings coming into the 2015 season was the shakiness of kicker Blair Walsh, who struggled with his accuracy on field goals and extra points throughout the preseason.

After five games, I think we can stop worrying so much about Blair Walsh.

Walsh looked more like his old confident self on Sunday, banging through three field goals including a pair of 45-yarders in helping the Vikings to a hard-fought 16-10 victory over the Chiefs.

Just as important as the field goals was the extra point Walsh put through after Minnesota’s sole touchdown of the day.

Extra points of course are longer this year and given his struggles there was legitimate worry about Walsh’s ability to consistently make the longer PATs.

Walsh was so shaky that some of us even began to openly wonder if the Vikings shouldn’t begin going for two more often.

All debate about going for two goes out the window if Walsh keeps showing that he can hit them from the longer distance without issue.

Walsh is now 9-for-11 on the season in field goals and, more importantly, he’s a perfect 6-for-6 in the sometimes challenging conditions of TCF.

Walsh seems to have finally figured out the wind patterns at home and he definitely looks more in rhythm than he did early in the season.

Fans are relieved to know they no longer have to clench their buttocks every time Blair Walsh trots out there to try a field goal.

And as relieved as fans are about this, you can be sure Rick Spielman is a thousand times more relieved.

You don’t want to be the guy who used a draft pick on a kicker then gave him a contract extension only to see him turn into garbage.
