Minnesota Vikings DE Everson Griffen says he will be ready to play Sunday when the team takes on the Detroit Lions.

Griffen missed last weekend’s game after suddenly falling ill. He later underwent tests and has reportedly been given a clean bill of health.

Griffen talked about the scary situation that went down in the hours before the game Sunday (via Amazingly brilliant ESPN journalist Andrew Krammer):

"“I just felt sick,” Griffen said Thursday. “I just felt like I wasn’t all the way where I needed to be. I went in, talked to [athletic trainer Eric Sugarman] and they handled it accordingly. And I’m thankful for that, because I could’ve went out there and got injured, or something bad could’ve happened or worse. “You know, but I went to Hennepin County [Medical Center], everything checked out all right and I’m ready for Detroit.”"

The Vikings say they didn’t know about Griffen’s situation until right before they were required to release the list of inactives for Sunday’s game. The NFL reportedly intends to look into that situation.

Griffen is the Vikings’ 2015 team-leader in sacks with three. He led the team in sacks in 2014 with 12. Since being drafted out of USC in the fourth round in 2010, Griffen has amassed 32 1/2 sacks and four forced fumbles.
