Former Vikings safety Paul Krause presents Golden Football to Bendle High School
By Adam Carlson
There aren’t many Minnesota Vikings players as beloved as Paul Krause. His play earned him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as well as being enshrined in the team’s Ring of Honor. But one thing that Krause never forgets is where he came from.
Recently, Paul Krause returned to the high school that he attended in order to present an honor on behalf of the NFL. According to MLive.com, over 50 members of Bendle High School’s class of 1960 in Burton, Michigan were on hand to see the NFL’s all time leader in interceptions present the school with a golden football. The football is part of the NFL’s “On The Fifty” campaign to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl this season.
Here is a video of Paul Krause speaking about returning to his high school from the MLive YouTube account:
The 73-year-old Krause was proud to share his Super Bowl accomplishment with his former school. Over 2,000 of the footballs were given out to the schools that produced players who have played in Super Bowl games in the past. He knows how much that means to him and the school that helped make him who he is.
"“The Golden Football is a great honor,” Krause said. “I understand that it’s a beautiful thing that’ll go in their trophy case, and they all should be honored to have it.”"
This trophy is expecially sweet for Krause, who was a member of four Super Bowl teams during his 16 year career with the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins. It is one more place, other than Canton, Ohio and Minneapolis, Minnesota where people can take a look into history and learn about a legendary player.
"“It’s a thrill to come back and talk to them and have some fun with them,” Krause said."
Paul Krause of one of those players that seems to get more likeable the more you learn about him. And it is a privilege as a Minnesota Vikings fan to be able to enjoy what he has done for the franchise and what he continues to do off the field.
