Vikings HC Mike Zimmer: ‘I like proving people wrong’
By Adam Carlson
Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer likes being the underdog. He enjoys it when people count him and his team out and he can prove that wrong. He especially loves when he can change the minds of those who think that he can’t be a good NFL head coach. And judging by the Vikings play so far this year, he appears to be doing a solid job of that.
In a recent article on Vikings.com, Zimmer spoke about his history of having to prove himself to others and make sure that the doubters know that he means business.
"“I like proving people wrong,” Zimmer said. “People have doubted me for a long, long time. I hope they keep doubting our football team, because that’s the mentality I’m trying to get them (to have). Say what you want and let’s go prove it.”"

The Vikings are only 7 weeks into the NFL season. Mike Zimmer knows that early success for his team is a great thing, but he needs a bigger sample size before he’s willing to buy into his own team. Even though he likes what he’s seen, he’s had too many things fall apart in the past.
Before Zimmer is about to get comfortable in knowing what he has, he wants to see more.
"“I figure after about 11 weeks, you kind of know who you are and where you’re at,” Zimmer said Monday. “But I’ve had defenses that have been very, very good and played bad the last four or five games. And I’ve had defenses that have been bad at the beginning of the year – that San Francisco game was not one of my most memorable [moments] – and have been able to fight back and continue to get better. It’s all about a long marathon and we’ll just keep going where we go.”"
Mike Zimmer might just be his own toughest critic. His expectations of his players and coaching staff are so high that winning personal awards and single accomplishments take a back seat to the major goal: winning a Super Bowl championship.
