Minnesota Vikings trade rumors: Cordarrelle Patterson

With the trade deadline approaching, it seems logical to speculate on the Minnesota Vikings potentially shopping spare-part wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

But according to a report from PFT you can stop your speculation because Patterson isn’t going anywhere.

Citing a league source, Mike Florio says the Vikings intend holding on to Patterson even though he has become an after-thought in their offense.

Once touted as a potential superstar after being taken in the first round of the draft, Patterson has seen himself fall behind fifth-rounder Stefon Diggs, seventh-rounder Charles Johnson and even UDFA Adam Thielen on the depth chart.

This season Patterson has just two receptions for ten yards and one rushing attempt for nine yards.

Patterson has provided excitement as a return man in the past but so far this year he has failed to have an impact in that role.

Some fans blame Norv Turner for Patterson’s drop-off in production, accusing Turner of not “using” him in the correct way.

Others suggest that Patterson’s true problem is his lack of work ethic and generally indifferent attitude toward his duties as a professional football player.

The sense I get with Patterson is that he’s just going along for the ride with his Vikings teammates right now and that’s enough for him.

By not trading Patterson, the Vikings are banking on him at least giving them one big play at some point in the future, perhaps at a key moment during a late-season game.

If Patterson should help the Vikings win a game with a huge return or a big gain on a gadget play, a lot of people will line up to say “I told you so.”

But the fact is that, at this point, there’s no way for Patterson to truly give the Vikings value for what they gave up to get him.

Rick Spielman is happy that Stefon Diggs has emerged, because it is helping fans forget what a terrible move he made trading picks to go up and get Cordarrelle the Stiff.
