1999 was a successful season for the Minnesota Vikings and for the Green Bay Packers…it was not.
The Packers were barely holding on when the two teams met for their second and final game of that season on December 9 in Green Bay, while the Vikings were surging toward the playoffs.
The Packers made it interesting early, going up 10-3 in the first half, but the Vikings answered by unleashing their offensive firepower in the form of Jeff George and Randy Moss.
Minnesota tied it up in the second quarter on a 57-yard TD from George to Moss. Green Bay made a field goal in the third to go back up 13-10 but the Vikes took the lead right back with another George-to-Moss TD.
The Packers made a game of it thanks to some fourth quarter trickeration, scoring a TD on a fake field goal pass from holder Matt Hasselbeck to Jeff Thomason.
But the Vikings came right back on the next series and put the game away, capping their drive with a 1 yard Leroy Hoard TD plunge.
Brett Favre and the Packers put together a heroic last-minute drive but Robert Griffin picked off Favre in the end zone to end it.
Randy Moss finished the game with 131 yards on nine catches with two touchdowns. The Vikings went on to the postseason while the Packers stumbled to an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs.
