Overall Impressions

Overall, this was NOT a pretty game. The Minnesota Vikings turned in one of the worst performances since their complete meltdown against the 49ers.

More from The Viking Age

However, I have to give major credit to the Green Bay Packers. They came into this game with a sound plan and executed it well despite having a ton of injuries and being on the road. As I have said before, the Packers are too good of a team to struggle for too long and it was just a matter of time before they got back on track.

Still, this game was not acceptable as a Minnesota Vikings fan. The penalties, missed opportunities on offense and poor tackling on defense were major issues. We’ll get another chance to see if this is Green Bay’s dominance or just a fluke of a game from Minnesota.

While I could point out some folks who had good or bad games, Cordarrelle Patterson deserves particular mention. He’s a good kick returner, but he’s not trusted in the offense and he headbutted a kicker in this game. Sure, it wasn’t a powerful headbutt or anything like that, but this is the kind of stupid, immature stuff that this Minnesota Vikings organization doesn’t need.  He’s so athletic and physically gifted, but he’s just not worth it. I got some faith back in him when he returned a kick for a touchdown earlier this year, but I’m officially done with him.

Next week, the Minnesota Vikings will travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. This should be another tough game for the Vikings, but hopefully we won’t get another performance like this one next week.  Fingers crossed.
