Cordarrelle Patterson’s mystery mentor – the one he didn’t bother meeting up with even after Mike Zimmer asked – may have finally had his identity revealed.
The answer to one of the greatest mysteries in NFL history may have been revealed Sunday morning in a tweet posted by the StarTribune‘s Matt Vensel.
This is huge guys. We finally think we know who Cordarrelle Patterson’s mystery mentor was.
Drum roll please…
Yes, THAT Michael Irvin.
The connection between Irvin and Mike Zimmer is obvious: Irvin was playing for the Cowboys when Zimmer was coaching there.

Presumably Irvin still has some relationship with Zimmer or at least with Zimmer’s own mentor Bill Parcells.
It’s a chain of mentors!
Unfortunately the chain was broken when Patterson opted not to meet up with his assigned offseason guru, preferring instead to workout on the beach and post videos.
One wonders what exactly Michael Irvin was supposed to teach Cordarrelle Patterson?
I guess Irvin does know a few interesting tidbits. About things not exactly related to playing in the NFL.
All things considered, I wonder how much Patterson actually missed by not talking to Irvin. If Irvin was indeed the snubbed mentor.
Perhaps Irvin could have advised him on how not to get flagged for pointlessly getting in the kicker’s face after a return?
That would actually have been helpful.
