Terence Newman moves to safety, Trae Waynes starts at CB
By Dan Zinski
Terence Newman gets his first start at safety for the Vikings with all the injuries at the position, and Trae Waynes gets a start at cornerback.
The Vikings are in a dire situation in their secondary and it’s led to some pretty interesting shuffling for tonight’s game in Arizona.
First off, Mike Zimmer has shifted long-time cornerback Terence Newman to the safety position where the veteran will start tonight alongside rookie Anthony Harris.

Taking Newman’s place at cornerback will be rookie Trae Waynes.
The Vikings were forced to make several roster moves this week with Harrison Smith, Andrew Sendejo, Antone Exum and Robert Blanton all battling injuries of varying severities.
Exum was placed on IR and Anthony Harris was promoted from the practice squad. For additional safety depth, the Vikings picked up Shaun Prater, who was cut from the team after training camp.
Sendejo and Smith are both inactive for tonight’s game, but Blanton is available though he will obviously not start.
Newman said this earlier in the week about the possibility of playing safety (via Viking Update):
"“I’ve played a lot of football in my life so I’m pretty comfortable with whatever they ask me to do,” Newman told Viking Update this week. “If they need me, I’ll be there.”"
Rookie Trae Waynes has gotten a few chances to play here and there when other players have been injured, but tonight will be his biggest test yet.
Minnesota is also without starters Linval Joseph and Anthony Barr. Sharrif Floyd starts at nose tackle for Minnesota and Edmond Robinson takes Barr’s place at Sam linebacker.
The Cardinals have the highest-scoring offense in the NFL.
