The Minnesota Vikings will be moving indoors to U.S. Bank Stadium for the 2016 NFL season, and the facility’s roof might be changing things around the NFL.

There is no debating that U.S. Bank Stadium will be one of the most state of the art facilities when it opens for the 2016 NFL season. The Minnesota Vikings have already been touting the building as being revolutionary, but that revolution seems to be starting now.

Plans for the new stadium in Los Angeles to build a new home for the Rams have been revealed, and the roof that is being planned for that facility has the same kind of roof that the new stadium in Minnesota will have. The substance used for the top is called ethylene tetraflouroethylene, and was used at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to show off their “water cube”. Now, that technology seems to be ideal for new stadiums.

Recently, an article on the ESPN website spoke about the roof and how U.S. Bank Stadium could start a trend for new stadiums to use the versatile substance when building a new, state of the art facility. Not only is it great at withstanding the elements, but it gives the control and safety of a dome while giving off the impression of an outdoor stadium.

"“If you go to another closed, covered stadium, it’s dark on days like today,” Bagley said. “But here, it’s very bright and natural.”"

This point was reiterated by Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority chairwoman Michele Kelm-Helgen, who praised the new Minnesota Vikings facility because of the unique feel that it gives visitors.

"“You really do feel like you’re sitting outside,” Kelm-Helgen said. “And yet, the roof has fritting on it, so it kind of diffuses the light. It’s not like a stark blaze of light; it’s really kind of soft. You see clouds, you see the sun. You get that indoor-outdoor feel.”"
