The Minnesota Vikings may have never won the Super Bowl, but the men’s pro sports teams in the state now hold a record they should want to get rid of ASAP.

Congratulations to the Cleveland Cavaliers on defeating the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals. This championship marks a 52 year long drought for the city that just couldn’t seem to break free of what some people were calling a curse.

While congratulations are in order for Cleveland. The record of longest title drought for a metropolitan area with three or more major men’s sporting teams now shifts to Minnesota, who have gone the longest without being able to host a championship parade according to NYDailyNews.com.

Fans of men’s sports in Minnesota have to look all the way back to 1991 for the last time a squad brought home a championship. That was when Kirby Puckett helped the Minnesota Twins capture the World Series in a thrilling fashion against the Atlanta Braves.

More from The Viking Age

Since then, the Twins have struggled and look downright awful this year. When you add in a Timberwolves team that is still growing and learning together and a Minnesota Vikings team that couldn’t seal the deal while having Randy Moss or Brett Favre, it starts to get a little ugly.

However, if the men’s pro sports teams have one chance to ditch this horrible record this year, it’s the Minnesota Vikings. The team is a playoff contender that should have improved over the offseason and didn’t lose any major pieces of their team.

Of course, these statistics don’t include the Minnesota Lynx, who have been dominant in the WNBA. Proving that winning in the state is possible, the Lynx have won 3 championships in the last 5 years, taking it all in 2011, 2013, and 2015.

As far as getting rid of this record, the Minnesota Vikings appear poised to make some noise this year, but may not be ready to make a push for the Super Bowl quite yet. However, with a few things going their way and some excellent play on the field, this dubious men’s sports record for Minnesota could be a thing of the past much sooner than expected.
