Recently, Colin Cowherd talked about Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on The Herd and likened the him to Atlanta Falcons passer Matt Ryan.

People love to compare things. Whether it is arguing with a friend over what the best movies are or trying to explain something that isn’t familiar, comparing one thing to another thing is a great way to get people talking or get a point across.

Recently, on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, comparisons were made between NFL starting quarterbacks. Cowherd seemed to take many different factors into consideration when making his comparisons, including size, ability, talent, history, and more.

Still, it was a minor surprise to hear that Cowherd compared Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. If you haven’t seen the video, here it is as shared on The Herd’s Facebook account:

In an ocean of sports analysts, Cowherd straddles the line between bold and vanilla. His takes are always thought-provoking and don’t seem to go to the extremes too often. While he isn’t on the Teddy Bridgewater bandwagon, Cowherd doesn’t dismiss the Minnesota Vikings quarterback like other members of the media do.

The explanation of why he chose Matt Ryan made sense, especially when you consider the physical statistics and college history of the two.

"“I would say, with Teddy Bridgewater, he’s Matt Ryan. That’s his prototype. And there are limitations to Matt Ryan. They’re both 6’3”. They’re both 250 to 220 pounds. They were both REALLY GOOD college quarterbacks who were able to start three years. The weakness for both is arm strength and the strength for both in maturity."

He also wanted to qualify that he didn’t mean they are carbon copies of each other. In fact, he thinks Teddy Bridgewater could be better or worse than Ryan in the future, but all that will rely on the supporting cast of the Minnesota Vikings.

"“Teddy Bridgewater is Matt Ryan. He could be slightly better or slightly worse, but as long as he has a reasonable team around him, which is what Matt Ryan has had, there’s going to be some limitations.”"

Then came a backhanded compliment from Cowherd about Bridgewater, where he said Teddy could be a Super Bowl champion in the future, but would need a lot of help due to limited talent.

"“Could Matt Ryan or Teddy Bridgewater win you a Super Bowl? Absolutely…if they had enormous talent around them. Neither one has the talent to carry a limited team.”"
