As feared, the emergency eye surgery for Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer will keep him from coaching the week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Late last night, the Minnesota Vikings announced that head coach Mike Zimmer would undergo emergency surgery on an eye that had been bothering him for a significant amount of time already.
In that statement, the team also said that his status for the Vikings Thursday Night Football would be up in the air. Considering the urgency of Zimmer’s surgery and the fact healing would be needed, expectations were low that Zimmer would be on the sidelines for week 13.
That feeling was confirmed on Thursday, when the general manager Rick Spielman held a conference with reporters talking about the situation leading to Zimmer being taken to the doctor and the plan to move forward during Thursday’s game with out Zimmer.

During the conference, it didn’t sound like Zimmer gave in to this easily. He wanted to be there for his team to help them win football games. Knowing he attitude of the Minnesota Vikings head coach, this wasn’t much of a surprise to get a push back.
Eventually, Spielman won this debate. He convinced Mike Zimmer that the future of his sight is much more important than being at this football game and that the team would be in good hands with the experienced coaching staff already in place with the Vikings.
Spielman’s words ring so true. Although Zimmer was willing to be at the game and do what he can for the franchise, his health and future should be the number one priority going forward.
