Cordarrelle Patterson interested in returning to Minnesota Vikings
By Josh Zinger
Free agent wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson recently announced via Snapchat that he is interested in a return to the Minnesota Vikings.
One of the biggest storylines so far during the Minnesota Vikings offseason has been whether or not unrestricted free agent wideout Cordarrelle Patterson would return to the team. While Patterson hasn’t lived up to the lofty expectations that surrounded him after he was drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft, he proved this year he still brings value to the team.
Reeling in 49 passes for 401 yards and two touchdowns as a rotational player, Patterson had his most productive season since his rookie year, and seemed to be showing signs of technical refinement as a player. Combined with his Pro Bowl caliber kick returning skills, it appeared Patterson was finally beginning to develop a niche with the team.
Given Patterson’s expiring contract and the other holes on the Vikings roster, however, his future with the team remained very much up in the air.
Two days into free agency, re-signing Patterson began to look unlikely, as reports emerged of Patterson scheduling visits with the Bears, Redskins, and Raiders.
Now, Patterson has weighed in on his ongoing free agency, expressing an interest to return to the Purple and Gold via Snapchat:
Whether that interest is reciprocated by the Vikings remains to be seen, but at least Patterson hasn’t shut the door on a return himself.
With electrifying ball-carrying skills and tantalizing (but admittedly unrealized) potential, some team might offer Patterson an expensive contract based on the promise of future development, but if the Vikings can get the young receiver back at a reasonable salary the team should definitely do so.
