Former Vikings’ linebacker interested in a return to the team

Free-agent linebacker Gerald Hodges has stated that he would be open to playing for the Minnesota Vikings once again if the opportunity presented itself.
Back in Week 4 of the 2015 NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings were facing off against the Denver Broncos. Midway through the game’s second quarter, Broncos (and former Vikings) running back Ronnie Hillman broke free for a 72-yard touchdown run.
Seen chasing Hillman in the distance was Minnesota linebacker Gerald Hodges. That would end up being one of the lasting images Vikings fans would have of the linebacker in a purple uniform.
Following the team’s game against Denver, Minnesota sent Hodges packing to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for center Nick Easton and a sixth-round draft pick.
The linebacker started 12 games for the 49ers in 2016 and finished the season with 80 total tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. This offseason, Hodges is a free-agent and has yet to sign with a new team.

On Monday, the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson reported that the linebacker would be interested in returning to the Vikings if the team wanted to bring him back.
In response to a question regarding a possible return to Minnesota, Hodges replied back to Tomasson via text message saying, “Definitely wouldn’t mind playing for them! Great organization!!”
The Vikings are a little thin at linebacker currently, but the chances of the Vikings bringing back Hodges does not seem very high. Especially since Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer was reportedly frustrated with the linebacker’s continuous mistakes during his time with the Vikings.
Next: Should the Vikings take a chance on QB Johnny Manziel?
Look for Minnesota to add a linebacker in this year’s draft rather than bring back someone they already know Zimmer is not fond of.
