The Minnesota Vikings have announced the addition of Ryan Quigley to the roster. He will compete for the punting job during the 2017 season.

Another player was added by the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. This time, it was a specialist who will compete for an open position following the departure of punter Jeff Locke in free agency this offeseason.

The team announced on their official website on Monday, April 3, 2017 that Ryan Quigley would join Taylor Symmank during the preseason to compete during training camp and preseason for the vacancy at the punter position.

Quigley was an undrafted free agent in 2012 who signed with the Chicago Bears. Since then, he has spent time with the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Arizona Cardinals before being brought into Minnesota.

Here is how Quigley was introduced to fans on the official Vikings website:

"“Quigley joins the Vikings having spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Cardinals (2016), Jets (2013-15) and Bears (2012). The Roselle, N.J., native has played in 51 career games while maintaining a 38.9 net punting average since entering the league in 2012. The Boston College product signed with the Bears as a rookie free agent after a prolific college career in which he left as the school’s all-time leader in career punts (284) for 11,418 yards.”"

It appears the Vikings will be having an open competition between the two punters who are currently on the roster. Ryan Quigley will go head-to-head with Taylor Symmank in hopes of earning the starting position left vacant by Jeff Locke’s departure.

Here is the post on Twitter from the official Vikings account announcing the transaction to add Quigley to the team’s roster:
