Four former Minnesota Vikings listed among top NFL kickers of all time

When it comes to great kickers, the Minnesota Vikings have enjoyed the pleasure of having several of the greatest of all time as part of their team history.

NFL.com media senior analyst Gil Brandt has been breaking down his the best players at every position in National Football League history and for a recent installment in the series, he discussed the most elite kickers of all time.

Of course, several members of the Minnesota Vikings made the list, which honored the 18 best kickers of all time. Included on the list were Eddie Murray, Jan Stenerud, Gary Anderson, and Morten Andersen.

Eddie Murray is the first Vikings player, landing at number 16 on the list. Murray spent the 1997 season with the Vikings, but made his way around the league, spending time with the Lions, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Cowboys, and Redskins. His career spanned 21 years, an impressive feat for any player in the NFL. Here is the list Brandt compiled of his biggest accomplishments.

  • Super Bowl champion
  • Voted to two Pro Bowls, First Team All-Pro one time
  • Made 352-of-466 career field-goal attempts (75.5%)
  • Made 538-of-545 career extra-point attempts (98.7%)

At number six, Jan Stenerud finished his career with the Minnesota Vikings, playing there from 1984 to 1985. He started his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1967 but moved on to the Green Bay Packers in 1980. Brandt also listed his achievements:

  • Super Bowl champion
  • Voted to six Pro Bowls, First Team All-Pro one time
  • Made 373-of-558 career field-goal attempts (66.8%)
  • One of four placekickers enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame

In the next spot at number five, Gary Anderson is a name Vikings fans should be very familiar with. Whether you curse his name or praise it, Minnesota had Anderson on his roster from 1998 to 2002, but also spent time with the Steelers, Eagles, 49ers, and Titans. Here are the achievements for Anderson shared by Brandt:

  • Voted to four Pro Bowls, First Team All-Pro one time
  • Made 538-of-672 career field-goal attempts (80.1%)
  • Made 820-of-827 career extra-point attempts (99.2%)

The final former member of the Vikings on the list is Morten Andersen, who appears in the number three spot. Morten had an amazing career spanning stints with the Saints, Falcons, Giants, and Chiefs in addition to his time with Minnesota in 2004. His career spanned from 1982 to 2004, an astounding 23 years. Here are the accomplishments Brandt listed for Andersen:

  • Voted to seven Pro Bowls, First Team All-Pro three times
  • Made 565-of-709 career field-goal attempts (79.7%)
  • One of four place-kickers enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
