Vikings WR Stefon Diggs: Running routes is ‘like painting pictures’

With an accurate quarterback like Sam Bradford, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs prides himself on his masterfully artistic route running.

In 2016, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford set an NFL record for completion percentage by converting 71.6% of his passes, but not all of the credit goes to the man throwing the football.

Not only does it take an accurate arm and patience to deliver the passes where they need to go, the quarterback needs to be aware of what his receivers are doing and where they will be next. And that is something the Vikings did well last season.

Both Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen have been praised for their work in route running. Thanks to crisp routes and excellent timing, the pass catchers have earned the trust of their quarterback. Diggs spoke with UK Mail about doing his best to play catch with Bradford last season.

More from The Viking Age

"“We’re still playing catch. It’s two guys that want to get something done. He’s really accurate when he’s throwing the ball so and I just want to catch the ball, so I try to keep it simple.”"

Not only is keeping it simple a focus of Diggs, but he knows that through his hard work in knowing the routes and executing them, he can not only increase his chances of being targeted in the offense. And more targets usually means a lot more production and even touchdowns.

"“I take pride. It’s like painting pictures. I want to draw the best canvas I can, make it look nice. So my quarterback likes it.”"
