It remains unknown whether or not the young Minnesota Vikings quarterback will play in 2017, but his head coach offered an update on Tuesday.
The last thing the Minnesota Vikings need right now is a quarterback battle. As bad as some may want Teddy Bridgewater to hurry up and take his old job back, rushing him back onto the field would not be wise for the quarterback or his team.
But as each week goes by, Bridgewater appears to inch closer and closer to getting placed on the Vikings’ active roster. During his press conference on Tuesday, Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer updated everyone about the current status of his young signal caller.
"“He’s progressed a lot. I don’t watch him every single day. He’ll be off the sides while we’re practicing. The reports I get are all positive. He knows where he’s at and knows where he’s got to get it. I think he’s progressing well. I think it’s a year today that it happened maybe and I know that he’s all in trying to get ready to play.”"

Zimmer also spoke on what Bridgewater will need to do in order to be cleared to practice in the future.
"“He’s got to be able to protect himself on the field and be able to do the movements that are required by his position.”"
There has not really seemed to be any setbacks during Bridgewater’s recovery process, but it is still refreshing to hear from those around him how well his rehab continues to go. There is no longer a doubt about him ever returning to the football field, it is now just a matter of when.

Information about when that actually could be should be known quite soon as the Vikings are on the verge of making the decision to start the regular season with the quarterback on the Physically Unable to Perform list or on the active roster.
If he begins the year on the PUP list, then Bridgewater will have to sit out for at least Minnesota’s first six games of the season. This scenario seems the most likely to happen at this moment in time.
However, the Vikings decide to place him on the active roster for Week 1, fans will be calling for Bridgewater to get out on the field as soon as Sam Bradford throws his first interception.

Placing him on the PUP list to start the regular season seems like an easy decision. But this is the Vikings we are talking about and the phrase “easy decision” seems like something they have become allergic to during their history as an NFL franchise.
