Taylor Heinicke connected with Cayleb Jones for the Minnesota Vikings first touchdown of preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.
It may be the final week of the preseason, but that doesn’t mean that there was a lack of big plays in the exhibition game between the Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins on Thursday, August 31, 2017.
In fact, one player who took advantage of this final preseason game of the year was Cayleb Jones. The wide receiver sometimes gets lost in the shuffle when it comes to discussing the young, talented pass catchers on the roster, but fans were forced to notice him in week 4 of the preseason.
Here is the play as shared on the official Twitter account of the Minnesota Vikings:

On third and six, the Vikings needed to close the gap on the Dolphins, who were leading by 14 points nearly halfway through the 2nd quarter.

Taylor Heinicke took the snap out of the shotgun, taking a few steps backwards. To his right, Cayleb Jones stopped on his route to be open in coverage, making the quarterback’s throw an easy one.
Catching the ball, Jones ran backwards a touch to shake off a defender. Using a wide angle, he ran by the defensive back and dove to the end zone. Breaking the plane, Minnesota now had their first points on the board.
Although the extra point was missed by Marshall Koehn, Minnesota was now only one score away from tying the Miami Dolphins as the Vikings hoped to bring home a win in front of the crowd at U. S. Bank Stadium.

Cayleb Jones will need to continue to impress the Minnesota Vikings if he wants to earn a spot on the team’s roster or practice squad. More plays like this could help his case, since Jones looked mighty impressive on this touchdown pass from Taylor Heinicke.
