Latavius Murray may not be on the top of the Minnesota Vikings depth chart, but the running back knows he must still be on top of his game this season.
When the Minnesota Vikings moved on from running back Adrian Peterson, fans knew there would be a big hole to fill on the roster. For many years, this team was designed to operate efficiently through the running game,
Minnesota did a great job of filling the hole. Not only did they pick up for Raiders running back Latavius Murray in free agency but the franchise used a second round draft selection on Dalvin Cook out of Florida State.
It didn’t take long for the rookie to soar to the top of the Vikings depth chart. While Murray was letting his ankle heal, Cook was breaking ankles on the football field and impressing the coaching staff and fans.
Recently, Latavius Murray spoke about Dalvin Cook sitting on top of the depth chart and what his goal is with the team going forward. Here are his comments according to the Pioneer Press website:
"“Dalvin has earned the starting position, and so I’ve just been looking at it that I need to continue to just really show them that regardless of being out for some time that I could obviously still play the game at a high level and show them all the reasons why they brought me in,’’ Murray said."

Even though he’s not starting, Murray can still expect to have a big role for the Vikings. Now that he is healthy, he and Cook can combine to become one of the most dangerous running back duos in the NFL if they continue to push each other to be excellent on the field.
Sadly, Murray is still playing a bit of catch-up from missing training camp and some of the preseason while recovering from his ankle procedure. However, he says he is healthy now and ready to play when called upon.
"“I was told it could be in this time frame, a matter of X amount of months to X amount of months,’’ Murray said. “To be honest, I fell into that frame, so that was fine with me. You hope that it’s obviously the shorter time frame, but every injury is different. The main thing is I’m happy I’m healthy now. Regardless of the time it took, it was about making sure I was healthy before I stepped back on the field.’’"
