Having begun this season with a 6-2 record, oddsmakers are starting to view the Minnesota Vikings as a true contender to win this year’s Super Bowl.

At the end of the 2017 NFL season, the league’s 52nd annual Super Bowl will be taking place at U.S. Bank Stadium, the home of the Minnesota Vikings. Currently sitting atop the NFC North with a 6-2 record, the chances seem to be increasing for the Vikings to become the first team in league history to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium.

Despite having to rely on backup quarterback Case Keenum for the majority of season and losing star rookie running back Dalvin Cook to a torn ACL in Week 4, Minnesota has looked impressive during the first half of this year. Much of their early success has to do with their defense, which is playing at a level arguably better than any other team in the league right now.

Having won five of their last six games, the Vikings are beginning to make believers of those outside of the organization. Including the oddsmakers in Las Vegas.

In their most updated odds to win Super Bowl 52, the Westgate Las Vegas Super Book has Minnesota tied for the fifth-best chance to bring home a Vince Lombardi trophy, this according to ESPN’s Ben Fawkes. Westgate’s Super Bowl odds for the Vikings are currently at 12-1 (the New Orleans Saints also have the same odds at this point in time).

More from The Viking Age

For those who are not too familiar with how betting odds work, right now someone would win $12 for every $1 they spent on a bet that has Minnesota winning the Super Bowl. The odds also indicate that Westgate views that this scenario has an eight percent chance of happening.

The five team’s who currently have better odds to win the Super Bowl than the Vikings according to Westgate are the Seattle Seahawks (8-1 odds), Kansas City Chiefs (6-1), Philadelphia Eagles (6-1), Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1), and New England Patriots (7-2). Along with Minnesota, the Saints (12-1), Atlanta Falcons (18-1), Dallas Cowboys (20-1), and Los Angeles Rams (20-1) round out the top ten.

Next: When will the Vikings start Teddy?

If the Vikings continue to win over these next few weeks, their odds will only get better. More victories would also mean the thought of Minnesota actually winning a Super Bowl in their home stadium this season would be that much closer to becoming a reality.
