The Minnesota Vikings have placed long snapper Kevin McDermott on Injured Reserve and added center Cornelius Edison to fill the spot on the 53-man roster.
The Minnesota Vikings made a transaction today ending the season of long snapper Kevin McDermott, who was very consistent with his snaps during extra points, field goals, and in punting situations.
McDermott was placed on Injured Reserve on Saturday, December 20, 2017 according to the team’s official website and the transaction signifies that the team will be moving forward with recently signed Jeff Overbaugh to handle the long-snapping duties.
After dislocating his shoulder in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers, McDermott made his way to the sideline and didn’t return to the game. The emergency long snapper in that situation was tight end David Morgan, who did an admirable job filling in.

Meanwhile, the Vikings were left with an open spot on the roster to fill and brought interior offensive lineman Cornelius Edison back to the main roster. He was on the 53 man unit before the team’s Week 8 game against the Browns but was released afterward and brought back to the practice squad.
Edison is in his second season in the NFL and entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears. After that, he spent some time with the Falcons before joining Minnesota’s practice squad.
The signing will allow for more depth on the interior of the line, where center Pat Elflein will miss Week 17 and right guard Nick Easton was placed on Injured Reserve last week.

Congratulations to center Cornelius Edison on rejoining the Minnesota Vikings main roster. Plus, we at The Viking Age would like to wish a full and speedy recovery to long snapper Kevin McDermott.
