The Minnesota Vikings will face off against the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, which should be a fantastic matchup!

For fans of the Minnesota Vikings, Wild Card Weekend of the playoffs felt a bit odd. Despite the boys in purple making the playoffs, they got the week off to prepare and rest, but that also meant that they would need to wait to see who they would play next.

After the Los Angeles Rams were defeated by the Atlanta Falcons, Vikings fans had to wait a little longer to find out who their opponents would be since they would face the winner of the game between the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.

In fact, it was on Sunday when Minnesota finally found out which team they would host during the Divisional Round and it should be an interesting matchup.

More from The Viking Age

The Minnesota Vikings found out will square off against the New Orleans Saints on January 14th at 3:40 pm central time for the rights to face off against the winner of the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons according to the official NFL website.

This sets up a matchup against teams with a bit of history. Of course, fans will remember the Week 1 victory the Vikings had over the Saints earlier this season, but this New Orleans team isn’t the same one they faced earlier in the year.

Add in the 2009 Conference Championship game where the Minnesota Vikings came up short against the Saints in a game with plenty of controversy and drama that ended with a Brett Favre interception on what could have been a game-winning drive.

The winner of this game will go on to play in the NFC Conference Championship game. And, of course, the victor in that contest will represent the conference in the Super Bowl at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
