Something finally went right for the Minnesota Vikings after the franchise has endured gut-punching moments time after time.
“Here we go again.”
This was the thought running through 99 percent of those engulfed in what is known as the Minnesota Vikings’ fanbase after the New Orleans Saints took a 24-23 lead with 25 seconds remaining in Sunday’s NFC divisional round matchup.
The Vikings had allowed the Saints to come back from a 17-point deficit and the Minnesota’s old playoff ghosts appeared to have taken control of the franchise’s postseason fate once again.
But these ghosts had never dealt with the magic of Case Keenum. The Vikings quarterback delivered a knockout punch to the team’s normal postseason formula when he chucked a ball 35-yards downfield into the hands of Minnesota receiver Stefon Diggs.
After New Orleans defenders took each other out like they were two Vikings trying to tackle Michael Vick, Diggs ran to the purple painted end zone and straight into Minnesota folklore.
“Wait a minute, what just happened?”

For once in their lifetime, Vikings fans were allowed to ask each other this question about something positive that happened to their team. Diggs crossing the goal line was basically the receiver grabbing his imaginary shovel and whacking the painful playoff memories of Gary Anderson and the 2009 NFC Championship straight in the face from point-blank range.
There was no moping around on Monday because of another postseason letdown. No, this Monday was full of smiles and people who don’t even like football talking with one another about when an undrafted quarterback and an overlooked receiver made Vikings history.
Will anything like this ever happen again? Well if Minnesota wins two more games, this season will automatically be deemed the greatest ever in the history of the franchise.

But until then, Vikings fans have the team’s greatest moment in team history to talk about courtesy of Keenum and Diggs. And for that, we say thank you.
