Report: Pat Shurmur leaving Minnesota Vikings for the Big Apple
By Adam Patrick
Once the Minnesota Vikings current season comes to an end, their offensive coordinator will reportedly become the new head coach of the New York Giants.
If it seemed like Pat Shurmur’s departure from the Minnesota Vikings was inevitable this offseason, it’s because it was. After helping transform Case Keenum into a productive quarterback this season, Shurmur has been one of the most sought after head coaching candidates for a number of teams around the NFL during the past few weeks.
Well, it looks like the Vikings’ current offensive coordinator has unofficially landed a head coaching job with a new team. According to the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling on Monday, Shurmur is expect to become the new head coach of the New York Giants.

The Giants’ job opened up after the team decided to part ways with Ben McAdoo in December. If he is indeed hired, Shurmur would become New York’s third head coach since 2015.
With Minnesota’s success on offense this year, it’s a little unfortunate that the team will have to search for a new offensive coordinator this offseason, but it is part of the business. Some early candidates for Shurmur’s soon-to-be vacant job could be current Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski, Minnesota offensive line coach Tony Sparano, and former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
Shurmur’s departure could also have a tremendous impact on what Minnesota decides to do with their upcoming quarterback situation this offseason. It would not be surprising if Shurmur wanted to bring Sam Bradford or Case Keenum along with him to New York given his success with the two signal callers in the recent past.

It has been a wonderful season to watch the Vikings offense with Shurmur leading the charge. But it’s hard to blame him though for joining a team with Odell Beckham Jr. on the roster.
