Brad Childress was the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2006 to 2010 but has called it quits from coaching after the 2017 NFL season with the Chiefs.
There have been some memorable moments in Minnesota Vikings history over the years that fans will likely never forget. And while the ‘Minneapolis Miracle’ is still fresh in the minds of fans, there was a play involving Brett Favre and Greg Lewis that gave fans similar chills in the 2009 season.
That year, the team’s head coach was Brad Childress, an offensive-minded specialist who joined the Vikings after a lengthy tenure as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although Childress didn’t stick around Minnesota, the 2009 season will be remembered as being one of the most magical. Seeing the team come within inches of reaching the Super Bowl that year with a legend at quarterback and a potential Hall of Fame running back in Adrian Peterson is hard to forget.

The Associated Press announced on the Pioneer Press website that Childress has retired as the assistant head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, January 29, 2018. This ends an 18-year coaching career in the NFL barring some kind of decision to return to the sport at a later date.
Here is a rundown of where Childress spent his time in the NFL as a coach:
- Philadelphia Eagles (1999–2005)
- Minnesota Vikings (2006–2010)
- Cleveland Browns (2012)
- Kansas City Chiefs (2013–2017)
