Terence Newman continues to be an ageless wonder in the NFL and the Minnesota Vikings cornerback is hoping to return to the league for the 2018 season.

There is no denying that the NFL career of Terence Newman is amazing. The Minnesota Vikings cornerback from Selina, Kansas will turn 40 years old on September 4, 2018, but shows no signs of preparing to hang up his cleats and retire.

In fact, Newman seems to actually improve with age, using his experience and football intelligence to put himself in positions to make plays against some of the biggest, strongest, and fastest receivers the NFL has to offer.

The question of whether or not he would return for his 16th season in the league is one that fans won’t need to wait for an answer to, as Newman made his intentions clear on Radio Row at Super Bowl 52 when speaking with Paul Allen as shared on the official Vikings website:

"“I want to play [next season], because we made it to an NFC Championship. We fell short. We fell way short. I want to be able to have an opportunity to win a ring. It’s that simple.”"

More from The Viking Age

Of course, there are some issues that will need to be worked out if Terence Newman wants to return to the Minnesota Vikings.

First of all, Newman signed a one year, $3,250,000 contract last offseason and is scheduled to become a free agent for 2018 unless he and Minnesota can work out a one-year deal to keep him with the franchise.

Also, the workload the Vikings have for Newman may have to be adjusted. With bigger roles for Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander, the veteran corner could find himself with more of a specialty position in the secondary rather than playing 55% of defensive snaps as he did last season.

If Newman does return for the 2018 NFL season, he would finish the season at 40 years old. The oldest cornerback to play in the league was Darrell Green at 42 years old, who had the odd superstition of, “sticking Tootsie Rolls in his sock, claiming that the candy helped him run fast”.

Newman himself has many things he does to stay an ageless wonder in the NFL, including a strict diet, cupping, and mental workouts. Each of which has helped to make him a great contributor for the Vikings.

Next: More than 15 Vikings will be free-agents in 2018

Hopefully, the Minnesota Vikings and Terence Newman will be able to work out a deal to keep their partnership going into the 2018 season and the cornerback will be able to achieve his goal of obtaining a Super Bowl ring.
