Many teams could use a starting quarterback for the 2018 NFL season, but the New York Jets could make it hard tor the Minnesota Vikings to sign Kirk Cousins.

Needing a quarterback is a familiar place for the Minnesota Vikings. Over the course of recent history, the franchise has tried stopgaps, aging veterans, or creating their own long-term answers at the position, but have struggled mightily.

Heading into the 2018 NFL season, the Vikings are once again in a situation where they will need to commit to a quarterback. Whether it is bringing back one of their own, spending money on a top free agent, or using a top draft pick, Minnesota has some huge decisions to make.

One option for the Vikings is to go all-in on acquiring former Washington Redskins passer Kirk Cousins, who will be moving on from the team after they got Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs.

More from The Viking Age

Cousins could be a long-term answer for Minnesota, but there will be plenty of other teams hoping to acquire his services, with one of them being the New York Jets.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the Jets are willing to do just about anything to acquire Cousins. That includes a rumor that New York is willing to give the quarterback $60 million guaranteed…in his first year with the Jets.

This means that if Minnesota wants any kind of shot in having Cousins as the starter that they will need to make a very attractive offer as well as make the case that the Vikings are a much better situation if he wants to win a Super Bowl.

Odds are that Minnesota won’t be able to bring as much to the table in terms of guaranteed money in 2018, but that doesn’t mean the team won’t still do their best to acquire Cousins.
