Medical reports on Bridgewater could have been better according to Zimmer

The Minnesota Vikings head coach spoke on Tuesday morning at the NFL Owners Meetings and he talked a bit about his former quarterback.

When the Minnesota Vikings added Teddy Bridgewater to the active roster back in November, the quarterback did his best to make it clear that he had no concerns about his surgically repaired knee.

Bridgewater did briefly appear in a game for the Vikings last season, but he has not started in a meaningful NFL contest since Minnesota’s first-round playoff matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in 2015. And based on some recent comments from Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, the young quarterback being a starter in the league once again is something that might not actually ever happen.

At the NFL’s annual Owners Meetings on Tuesday, Zimmer spoke to reporters and included a few more details than he ever has before when talking about Bridgewater’s injury.

What Zimmer said on Tuesday should help explain why Bridgewater is no longer with Minnesota.

Clearly, there are still concerns about the quarterback’s knee health and this probably had a lot to do with the Vikings going out and spending a ton of money to sign Kirk Cousins.

Deep down, Minnesota’s head coach probably wanted Bridgewater as his starting signal caller moving forward. But it’s likely that the medical evaluations made it too much of a risk for Zimmer and the Vikings to put the future of the franchise in the hands of Bridgewater.

It’s unfortunate that the young quarterback may never be starter again in the NFL. But compared to players in the past that suffered a similar type of injury, no one has ever progressed as far as Bridgewater.
