Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cayleb Jones is now the second player on the team’s roster in the last two weeks to be handed a suspension from the NFL.

First it was linebacker Kentrell Brothers back on April 20 and now another Minnesota Vikings player has been given a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Multiple reports on Monday revealed that Vikings receiver Cayleb Jones has been been suspended by the NFL for a PED violation. Like Brothers, Jones will not be eligible to play in the 2018 regular season until Minnesota’s Week 5 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 25-year-old receiver was signed to the Vikings’ practice squad in 2016 and that is where he remained last year as well. Jones still has not appeared in an NFL regular season game.

It’s unfortunate timing for Minnesota’s young receiver, as his chance to make the team’s 2018 roster was already pretty slim.

With players like Brandon Zylstra, Stacy Coley, and Tavarres King also competing for a spot on the Vikings’ wide receiver depth chart, Jones has a difficult road ahead of him to remain in Minnesota.

He does have one year of practice squad eligibility left since he has never been active for a regular season contest. However, the Vikings may want to give that spot to someone else who won’t be serving a four-game suspension.

Before Minnesota signed him in 2016, Jones was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, who signed him as an undrafted free-agent out of Arizona. During two seasons at Arizona, the 6-foot-2, 209 pound receiver caught a total of 129 passes for 1,926 yards and 14 touchdowns.
