3 Top Takeaways: Minnesota Vikings vs. New York Jets – Week 7
By Adam Patrick
Thielen can’t be stopped
This seems to be said almost every week this season, but no opposing defense has been able to contain Adam Thielen this year.
Minnesota Vikings
On Sunday against the Jets, Thielen notched his seventh game in row with over 100 receiving yards, tying an NFL record to open a season. If he goes over 100 again next week, he will tie the league’s all-time record for the longest streak of 100-yard performances at eight with former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
Even if Thielen doesn’t tie the record next Sunday, he is still having an amazing season. After seven games, the Vikings pass catcher still leads the NFL in catches (67) and receiving yards (822).
Thielen needs just 178 more yards to become the first Minnesota player with back-to-back years of at least 1,000 receiving yards since Randy Moss did it in 2003.
Moss actually had six straight seasons with over 1,000 yards in a Vikings uniform from 1998 to 2003. Fellow Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter holds Minnesota’s all-time record for the longest streak of 1,000-yard seasons at eight.
Thielen has a long way to go before he reaches immortal status like Carter and Moss. But the current Vikings wide receiver is definitely doing a pretty good job this year at creating his own path to a possible spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day.
