Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis recently suggested that the Minnesota Vikings would be an ideal landing spot for Adrian Peterson this offseason.

Some credit is due to former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. As much as some people believed his time in the NFL was finished, Peterson proved his doubters wrong in 2018 when he gained over 1,000 rushing yards for the eighth time in his pro career.

As a member of the Washington Redskins last year, the 33-year-old running back appeared in 16 games and racked up a total of 1,250 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns on 271 touches.

This offseason, Peterson is scheduled to be a free-agent and he should be able to generate some interest from a number of teams around the NFL based on his production in 2018. Conveniently, the Vikings also happen to possibly be in the market to add a veteran back this year to be the backup behind Dalvin Cook.

Could a return to Minnesota in 2019 actually be possible for Peterson? Well, at least one notable person believes that re-joining the Vikings this year would be the most ideal decision for the veteran running back.

Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis recently commented on NFL Network that it would be great to see Peterson end his pro career back in a Minnesota uniform.

"“It’s time to bring AP back home. It’s time to bring him back to Minnesota. Think about it, Latavius Murray may be out of there. You still like Dalvin Cook, he’s going to be there. But remember, this is a two-back league now. You bring Adrian back. What I saw last year, there was a lot of gas in the tank and it would be phenomenal to see him finish his career off in Minnesota where it all started.”"

While some, like Davis, believe that the Vikings should bring back their former All-Pro running back this year, he’s not really a good fit for what the team wants to do next season.

Minnesota isn’t in need of a No. 1 running back and people need to stop thinking that Peterson is going to sign with a team that is going to make him their backup. The New Orleans Saints attempted to use him in a No. 2 role in 2017 and it resulted in him getting released after just four games.

Peterson has never been comfortable as a backup and he’s made it known. As much as some may love to see it happen, the Vikings joining forces with their former star running back again would be a poor decision for both parties.
