Recently signed by the Minnesota Vikings, former Rutgers cornerback Isaiah Wharton was included on a recent list of 2019’s best undrafted free agents.

Following their final pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings still had plenty of work to do to improve their roster.

Shortly after the conclusion of the draft, the Vikings signed 10 undrafted free agents to compete for a spot on their final 2019 roster. Minnesota also had 37 players trying out for the team during their rookie minicamp last weekend.

Among those trying out for the Vikings during their three-day minicamp was former Rutgers cornerback Isaiah Wharton. Apparently, Wharton did enough to impress Minnesota during his tryout as it resulted in the team signing him to their roster.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, the rookie corner could become the latest project for Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer. A four-year starter at Rutgers, Wharton finished with 61 total tackles, eight pass breakups, and two interceptions in 2018.

He proved to be durable in college (48 consecutive starts) and he also has the potential to line up as a safety due to his size. Wharton also claims to be at his best in man-to-man coverage, something that Zimmer likes to use frequently in his defense.

Of all the undrafted free agents that have been signed since the end of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Rutgers corner is being considered among the best. The Draft Network’s Kyle Crabbs recently released his choices for this year’s All-Undrafted Team and Wharton was one of the three corners he selected.
