5. Left Guard

Left guard makes the list as one of the weakest positions on the Vikings because it is packed full of uncertainty.

Pat Elflein tops the depth chart here and he is presumed to be the starter during 2019 season. The question with him though is which Elflein are we going to see? The stud from his rookie season in 2017, or the one who was a liability and weakness in 2018?

I won’t get too far into detail on Elflein as I’ve already written a piece on whether or not he’ll be better in 2019. But there are reasons to be concerned. He’s playing a new position and that can take some time to adjust plus maybe he just isn’t as good as we all thought after his first season. He has a ton to prove in 2019.

Behind Elflein is where things get very worrisome. Danny Isidora is the primary backup. He’s been in the league a few years now, but he hasn’t done much of anything.

This big man couldn’t even beat out Tom Compton for playing time a season ago and that is downright depressing. Isidora might not even make the team this year unless he takes major strides this preseason.

Finishing the depth chart is Aviante Collins. Minnesota seemed fairly high on this guy during the 2018 preseason, but he got hurt and he never got to show his stuff. Collins a big question mark and wild card as the Vikings prepare for the upcoming season.

Left guard is a position which is led by a guy who needs to have a bounce-back year. Behind him are blockers who haven’t proved anything yet in a meaningful NFL game, clearly making this one of the weakest positions on Minnesota’s current roster.
