Vikings Training Camp 2019: Top 4 takeaways from Day 8
By Adam Patrick
New punt returner already selected?
During the beginning of this year’s training camp, it seemed like the Vikings’ vacant punt returner job was very wide open. Minnesota had more than a handful of their players taking reps returning punts including Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs, Ameer Abdullah, and Jordan Mitchell.
Since then, Chad Beebe has been getting a bunch of opportunities returning punts in camp and this was the case, once again, on Saturday night.
For now, it seems safe to assume that Beebe will at least open the preseason as the Vikings’ top punt returner. Depending how it goes from there will determine if he keeps the role for the rest of 2019.
Beebe has minimal experience as a punt returner at the NFL level, but it’s a job he held in college at Northern Illinois. During his time at the school, he returned a total of 48 punts and he averaged 6.9 yards per return.
