Everson Griffen – DE

Figuring out what to do with Everson Griffen is going to be one of the hardest decisions for the Vikings to make during the upcoming offseason.

After Minnesota was able to get Griffen to agree to a restructured deal before the start of this season, the defensive end now has the option of voiding the rest of his contract and becoming a free agent in 2020. However, he can also choose to follow through with the terms of his current deal and present the Vikings with a cap hit of almost $14 million next season.

Even with how well Griffen has performed this year, his cap hit for 2020 may still be an amount that is too high for Minnesota to want him back next season.

If the veteran defensive end does decide he wants to stay with the Vikings next year, but only on the terms of his current deal, the team could still just release him and free up more than $13 million in cap space.

As one of the top leaders on their current roster, Minnesota and Mike Zimmer would obviously love to have Griffen return in 2020. But his price tag has to get much, much lower in order for that to happen.
