Replacement for Griffen

During Mike Zimmer’s entire tenure as the head coach of the Vikings, he’s had the luxury of Everson Griffen being his starting defensive end.

However, Griffen’s time in the Twin Cities appears to be over as he recently decided to pursue offers elsewhere this offseason instead of re-signing with Minnesota. So now, Zimmer and the Vikings are left trying to figure out who will be their new starting defensive end to pair with Danielle Hunter in 2020.

Minnesota has a few options to fill this void that includes selecting a top pass-rushing prospect in this year’s NFL Draft, transitioning Ifeadi Odenigbo into a starting role, or pursuing someone like Yannick Ngakoue in a trade.

As good as Griffen has been for the Vikings during his time with the team, Ngakoue has the potential to be even better. Plus, the combination of Ngakoue and Hunter on the same defensive line is something that would immediately be regarded as one of the top pass-rushing duos in the entire league.
