How would he fit with the Minnesota Vikings?
Pettis may not become a focal part of the Vikings, but that does not mean he would not have a role on the team. He could take over as a deep threat and extra perimeter playmaker. He also would bring competition to K.J. Osborn and Mike Hughes in the punt return game.
Kirk Cousins loves to throw the deep ball, and Pettis might just be the perfect match for the gunslinger. Utilizing his speed and creating ability would take a bit more of the load off of Dalvin Cook, who always bails out the offense when they need it most.
Now, Pettis clearly is not the perfect player with no risk whatsoever. He has a worrisome injury history and a somewhat sizeable contract for a player with a limited role. He has not shown the ability to consistently make plays at the NFL level and seems to have already lost his spot in San Francisco.
The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of young hopefuls on the roster as they prepare for training camp this summer. Quartney Davis, K.J. Osborn, and Alexander Hollins are all fringe roster guys who have to prove themselves early and often. Bringing in another young speedster will certainly make things interesting for the offense.
Final Verdict: The Vikings could always use another playmaker, and Dante Pettis can fill a lot of needs for Minnesota in 2020. It may be a shot in the dark, but the Vikings should at least call the 49ers about his availability.
