Minnesota’s offensive line will, unfortunately, look familiar

In 2019, the Vikings offensive line was not terrible. However, they didn’t come even close to playing well enough to avoid changes this offseason. At least, that’s what everyone thought.

New offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak recently discussed the direction of the team’s offensive line for this season and it sounded like he revealed that the Vikings will be heading into Week 1 with four of the same five starters from last year.

We already knew that Minnesota had to find a new starting right guard after their decision to release Josh Kline earlier this offseason. But the fact that it seems like the Vikings are going to keep Riley Reiff as their starting left tackle and Pat Elflein as their starting left guard is beyond mind-boggling.

Yes, there is less time to have a competition for those two starting spots in this year’s training camp and there is no preseason to get live reps. But for Kubiak to basically declare that Minnesota is just going to roll with the same starters on the left side of their offensive line doesn’t seem like the best decision to make.

Maybe things will end up differently by the start of the regular season. However, it doesn’t sound like there’s a good chance of any changes actually happening.
