The former Minnesota Vikings running back was released on Friday.

Since parting ways with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017, Adrian Peterson has been doing whatever he can to extend his career in the NFL.

Most recently, Peterson appeared to be heading into his 14th season in the league as a member of the Washington Football Team. However, his time in the NFL might have just come to a close with a decision made by Washington on Friday to release the former Vikings running back.

With less than a week until the start of the 2020 regular season, will Peterson be able to find another team to suit up for this year?

Adrian Peterson should have no interest from the Minnesota Vikings

At 35-years-old, time certainly isn’t on the side of the former Minnesota running back. All summer long we heard about how Peterson wants to continue playing in the NFL for another four or five years. But now, he’ll probably be lucky if suits up for a game in the league ever again.

One of the biggest takeaways from his release on Friday should be that it was a move that had nothing to do with money. Washington currently has over $25 million in cap space and Peterson’s cap hit for 2020 was only around $3.2 million.

Even after letting go of Derrius Guice earlier this year, Washington still felt they were better off without the former Vikings running back on their roster this season.

So is this the end of the road for Peterson? For someone who has a bit of an outdated skill-set, the chances of him signing on with another NFL team this year don’t seem very high.

There are less than a handful of teams that might have a sliver of interest in bringing Peterson in for a tryout this year and Minnesota is not among them.

As much as some Vikings fans would love him to return to the team that drafted him, it just isn’t going to happen. Minnesota is more than set at the running back position with Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison.

Peterson still believes he is a starter in this league and him not being interested in being used more as a backup is just another reason why the Vikings won’t be giving their former running back a call anytime soon.

Even though it seems like everything is pretty much pointing to the end of Peterson’s tenure in the NFL, he’s proven in the past that it’s not the greatest idea in the world to doubt him. However, landing a gig with another team might end up being too big of an obstacle to overcome even for him.
