Gurley has been a quiet, but rejuvenated, beast
The Los Angeles Rams cut ties with Todd Gurley in a shock move during the offseason. In doing so, they switched to a committee-style group of ball-carriers including rookie halfback, Cam Akers. Gurley was one of the running backs that signed a lucrative contract, but he was later derided for ripping the Rams off.
Low and behold, he’s now the feature back for the Falcons, and it’s working. Of course, the team is experiencing doldrums, but Gurley has personally been wonderful.
This season, he ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns (behind Dalvin Cook). There was a vibe when he was shunned by Los Angeles that he was a wayward, injured, and aging running back, but he’s still only 26-years-old.
For his sake, it’s unfortunate that his team is underachieving while his former squad, the Rams, is sitting pretty with a 4-1 record. Yet, as an individual football player, Gurley has performed admirably.
