In what seems like an annual offseason tradition, the Minnesota Vikings are currently in the middle of a search for a new offensive coordinator after the retirement of Gary Kubak.

No decision has been made yet by the Vikings, but there have been some assumptions about what the team is planning to with the opening.

Many are assuming that Gary’s son, Klint, will step in and take over as Minnesota’s offensive coordinator for next season. Well, a Vikings player might have recently confirmed that this is exactly what the team will be doing.

Justin Jefferson possibly reveals who will be the new Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator

Minnesota rookie sensation, Justin Jefferson, recently had a chat with FanSided’s Mark Carmen about a variety of topics. Jefferson was asked about the Vikings’ offensive coordinator opening and what he learned from working with Gary Kubiak during the 2020 season.

"“Nothing but respect for coach [Gary Kubiak]. I wish I could have more years with him. I was just getting comfortable with him. But I’m pretty sure Klint [Kubiak] is going to come in and do the same or even better. I’m pretty sure [Gary] is going to give him a little insight and give him some tips on how to call the games.”"

Klint is going to come in and do the same? It sounds like Jefferson might’ve let the cat out of the bag during this conversation with Carmen.

While Minnesota probably wishes this info could have been kept in-house before announcing their decision, it’s not something that should really come as a surprise to anyone.

Especially after the Vikings’ recent hiring of Keenan McCardell to be their wide receivers coach, most have expected Andrew Janocko to shift from coaching the team’s receivers to taking over as Minnesota’s quarterbacks coach, and the younger Kubiak will be promoted from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator.

After the success of promoting from within to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy in the past (Pat Shurmur and Kevin Stefanski), the Vikings’ expected decision to promote Kubiak is not a shock at all.

Taking this route should allow Minnesota to continue running the same offensive scheme that was very successful in 2020. Plus, with Kubiak being 33-years-old, he should be able to add a touch of modernness to an offense that has been used around the league for multiple decades.
