5 most explosive players on the Vikings 2021 offense
By Nik Edlund
Kirk Cousins – QB
When thinking of the explosive weapons on the Vikings offense, Kirk Cousins doesn’t immediately come to mind. This guy is pretty vanilla and is such a nerdy dad-type that it’s easy to overlook him. If he was a firework he’d be that really fancy-looking rocket that sometimes explodes with a huge burst of color and a loud bang, but sometimes just ends with a few glittery snaps. He’s a bit up and down, but he’s the catalyst that makes this whole offense dangerous.
Cousins isn’t afraid to take shots down the field. Sometimes this pans out, like in the playoff game against the New Orleans Saints a few years back when he launched a deep one to Adam Thielen in overtime to set the team up for the winning touchdown.
Sometimes these tosses end up as incompletions or even interceptions, but the fact he’s got the guts to take those shots speaks volumes.
A season ago, Cousins threw 35 touchdown passes and averaged over 12 yards a completion. He isn’t a dink and dunker and he is always wanting to push the ball down the field. With weapons like Thielen, Justin Jefferson, Irv Smith Jr., Tyler Conklin, and Dalvin Cook, those explosive game-changing throws will continue in 2021.
