Running drills and practicing with familiar faces on the same team is one thing, but executing plays and working against real opposition in a joint practice raises the stakes a little bit and makes everyone a little more competitive.
Wednesday’s joint practice was a mixed bag according to Vikings analyst Eric Smith on Twitter. Both sides still have some issues they need to iron out as there were many turnovers and mistakes made that can’t afford to happen when the regular season arrives.
Both Patrick Peterson and Bashaud Breeland are coming off seasons that saw them get flagged often. This is something they will need to clean up if they want the Vikings offense to be among the league’s best. Plus, ball security and smart play are a must under Mike Zimmer.
Having these joint practices and three preseason games should help to iron out these problems a little bit, but that will be something to watch as these two teams continue to get familiar with each other this week.
