Vikings vs. Bengals: Overtime
The Bengals won the coin toss and chose to receive. They kept with their strategy of running the ball and found some success with Joe Mixon. On a third and three, Michael Pierce dominated the line of scrimmage and sacked Joe Burrow to force a punt.
Minnesota took over at the 22-yard line but couldn’t move the ball well at all. They punted the ball back to the Bengals and Jodan Berry pinned Cincinnati at the 10-yard line. A three and out put Minnesota back in the driver’s seat.
A decent return from Dede Westbrook put Minnesota at their own 37. A holding call on the Bengals helped Minnesota to give them a fresh set of downs A nice completion to Justin Jefferson flipped the field and put Minnesota on the 38. The ball came loose on a short Dalvin Cook run and was ruled a fumble recovered by the Bengals.
After a review, the ruling is upheld despite the video looking as if Cook was down. The ball goes to the Bengals with 1:48 to go in overtime.
A fourth and one pass to tight end C.J. Uzomah picked up 32 yards and put the Bengals into field goal range. Burrow spiked the ball with five seconds left and brought on Evan McPherson to try a 33-yard kick for the win. His kick went through the uprights and handed the Vikings their first loss of the season.
The final score of the game was 24-27 with the Minnesota Vikings falling to the Cincinnati Bengals in the season opener. Next week, the purple and gold will hit the road to play the Arizona Cardinals, a team that beat the Tennessee Titans to be 1-0 this season.
