Joseph will not miss a kick
Throughout the preseason, I wondered what the Vikings saw in Greg Joseph. With kicks that were barely clearing the crossbar and a couple of misses in the final exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs, it seemed like Minnesota had better options on the waiver wire, but they stuck with him.
The Vikings were vindicated with Joseph’s 53-yarder in Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. But they felt the other end of the sword when Joseph missed an extra-point try and a 37-yard field-goal attempt in the closing seconds of the loss to Arizona.
It’s only natural for Vikings fans to feel a sense of despair, but special teams coach Ryan Ficken said that Sunday’s miss wasn’t due to a mechanical issue. This could mean that Sunday was just a bad day at the office and could spur a rebound on Sunday.
Joseph didn’t miss in three attempts at U.S. Bank Stadium in the preseason, so maybe a return will spur some confidence. If he cannot make his kicks, the situation becomes a lot more interesting moving forward.
