2 favorable matchups for the Vikings in Week 9 vs. the Ravens
By Luke Parrish
Eric Kendricks vs. Mark Andrews
This is not as clear of a favorable matchup for Minnesota but it does give them a better chance than other defenses might have. Eric Kendricks is a phenomenal middle linebacker who can obviously impact the run game but can also hold his own in pass coverage.
Baltimore loves to utilize star tight end Mark Andrews in the passing game and he should still be a large component of their offense this week. However, having Kendricks roaming the middle of the field – and potentially even Harrison Smith in the box – will help limit his impact on the game. I would expect Mike Zimmer to keep the safeties deep to help deter Hollywood Brown from beating them down the field but mixing looks to stop Andrews is important.
Regardless of how hard they try to stop it, the Vikings will struggle to stop Lamar Jackson and others on the ground. They have taken it on the chin a few times this season already, especially against the Browns, and this will be no different. The only hope is to make splash plays in the passing game.
This is a must-win game for the Vikings after blowing an easy opportunity to get back on track last week. Losing another game and falling to 3-5 with a tough schedule ahead will severely hinder their plans of playoff football.
