Some coaches are figuring it out

“You play to win the game!” Herm Edwards couldn’t have been more astute in that quote and it definitely applies to the Minnesota Vikings as their conservative play has led to them losing closely contested football games.

Co-defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, and assistant head coach Andre Patterson had his own version of that quote following the crushing loss to the Dallas Cowboys last week and it’s one all fans should agree with.

"“We’ve got to get to the point to where instead of trying not to lose the game, as players, we’re going to win. We’ve got some guys that are trying not to make a mistake. That mentality has to flip.”"

Great teams don’t sit on leads and hope they hold. They have a killer mentality and push the game out of reach, crushing the spirits of their opposition. With the team having vocal players like Everson Griffen on the roster to keep everyone fired up and a fresh approach to closing out games, this could be a game the Vikings might actually have a chance of stealing on the road.
